  5. True, but there are definitely a number of non-genetic factors noted in mainstream medical research ( and few not so noted). For example, saturated fat intake vs carbohydrates.   6. Causal explanations are required. For example: Lipoprotein (a) is an interesting case. Lp(a) has been identified as a super-dangerous causal risk factor for cardiovascular disease, and pharmaceutical companies are going all out to develop drugs that reduce it (statins are ineffective). Nevertheless, Lp(a) may have anti-infection and anti-cancer functions (perhaps especially if combined with exercise), and may actually be a double-edged sword.

  8. Sorry to hear about this. As you likely already know, cranberry extract and d-mannose are moderately effective in preventing certain kinds of bacteria from adhering to the urinary track walls, but won't directly knock out an infection like antibiotics. They are probably most useful as prophylactics.

  10. Sometimes I need to drive through a crowded city and out to a neighboring village. Driving conditions can be quite dangerous--icy roads + poor visibility + numerous reckless, non-law-abiding drivers to contend with. I want to be maximally alert and focused, and if I feel I need a boost, I use some or all of these aids: Ice-cold shower (1-3 reps/ with energizing breathing) Short duration/high intensity cold exposure-->long-lasting increase in dopamine and norepinephrine. Fortunately the tap water here is extremely cold, otherwise I’d probably go for a short ice bath. Coffee+cacao (sometimes green tea, if less caffeine preferred. Ideally I’d stop caffeine intake 10hrs before sleep time). Nicotine lozenge (occasionally, 1/2 or less) Enhances alertness via dopamine, acetylcholine, norepinephrine.

  16. Thanks. I did a lot of research on Vit D a few years back and, as I tend to do, reached certain tentative conclusions and more or less dropped the issue. Regarding evidence of Vit D--> bone loss / hypercalciuria discussed in the video, I would have liked to see Vit. k2 brought into the discussion. In any case, I think it's probably impossible to identify an ideal 25(OH)D level for all individuals. Personally, I get less sun exposure than I would like (my California surfing days are over), and I've found I need to supplement modestly to avoid sinking below 30 ng/ml. .
  17. I would aim for preserving neuro-muscular quality, not simply muscle mass. If the goal is to maintain physical functionality through old age, you don't actually need that much muscle mass per se to achieve that, and furthermore, there is a lot of evidence showing that the loss of muscle mass per se is not the driving factor in the loss of functional strength, balance etc. Unfortunately, I don't have the time to link the various threads that have delved into these questions.

  20. That was was in November. December has been mostly in the -15 to -27C range. It has warmed up recently to -8 to -15C, but forecast to go back to -20 to -30C by the end of next week. I'm definitely doing a lot of CE. Tap water comes straight from the Yenisey river and is really, really cold.
