Introducing ourselfs

Hello dear community,


As a freshman, I've noticed that we have no introduce-thread - I would be happy if we would use this one for it.

Short introduction: I am writing from Germany, I am 30 years old, male and I am interested in the human psyche and communication. Here, however, it is inevitable to seek and find a direct as well as indirect connection to the body and its health.
That's why I follow this forum for some time. 

Anyone who looks at my profile can read my idea for a healthy lifestyle (short summary). The bullet points:

- light CR
- Vegan 5-6 days a week
- On non-vegan days, extra meat is taken in small quantities in addition from different animals
- 16/8 (rather 18/6) with 1-2 meals
- HIIT, Cold Exposure, Lots of Movement

Personally, I have been a leader in engineering and just a few years ago had some challenges in terms of stress and a healthy diet. Since I did not want to give up my work (focus: sales), because I have a lot of fun and like to invest as much time in it, I have at the same time dealt with the topics, psyche, fitness, health and "work-life-balance".

For 8 years I am in a stable relationship. We have a small dog. I love traveling, nature, social interactions, work, architecture, communication psychology .

nice to meet you! i am working on eating a lot of variety still--my nutritionist and i incorporate intuitive eating practices in my food choices week to week--but i definitely have a goal this season and year to : eat more vegan and plant-based meals, also incorporate some gluten-free and sugar-free meal focus, possibly continued omega-3 treatments with fish, spinach, walnuts, etc.

My overall diet: 95% to 100% plant-based (it depends if I'm travelling or if I've been brought some grass fed sheep cheese). In the rare occasions when I eat animal-derived food, it's either nonfat greek yogurt or skyr or local grass fed sheep cheese (sometimes goat cheese or both).

I eat lots of vegetables and fruits (two to three pounds per day usually), nuts, soy yogurt and tofu, beans, wholegrain and pumpernickel bread and as many xenohormetic foods as possible. 

I adhere to the conceptual framework that, evolving from primates (who eat mainly foliage, fruits, nuts), our system has adapted evolutionary to take advantage of plant toxins which have an hormetic beneficial effect and act as natural medicines. Nature's way to provide antidotes to illnesses and degenerative disorders simply by the consumption of plant-based food .

I do not adhere to low-carb diets, although I try to avoid an excess of carbs. My latest analyses have shown no insuline resistance. I never eat junk food. I try to optimize cost and quality of food.

I opened a thread on training optimization. Presently I am following a schedule of resistance training where I leverage the effect of modest weight by appropriate techniques. In a few words, I avoid injuries and pains deriving from large loads and benefits from the growth stimulus provided by small loads lifted with perfect form, slow motions and stressing the eccentric part. Also, I avoid exercise which is known to overstress the joints (such as barbell bench press) or the backbone (heavy squats or deadlifts).

I only do moderate cardio (threadmill). The overall results are satisfactory.  Long term goal: a muscular, shredded physique without the usual overeating practiced by bodybuilders.

My immune system appears to be boosted by cold exposure. Last year I never got ill, nor caught a cold, cough or anything. 

I practice Valter Longo's FMD 3-4 times per year and opened a thread on the details.

My sleep quality is poor and has always been poor. However, this does not seem to impinge too much on health. Maybe an inherent adaptation.

Last but not least, I follow yoga practices of meditation and detachment from material and mental attachments.

Hi, I'm John

I'm 46, I have a pretty awful diet, but I read some articles recently on intermittent fasting and its positive effects.   So I'm just looking to learn more.   I need to basically do all three

1)  Improve the foods I do eat
2) Exercise with more regularity and
3) Figure out the best way to implement intermittent fasting

Off the top of my head I'm thinking of a 24 hour fast one day a week.

Cleaning up your diet will likely do more good than fasting, but I would suggest just keep it simple and do a form of intermittent fasting that just lengthens the period you go without food each day until you get up to about 16-17 hours.  If you need to lose a lot of weight, I would seriously consider a water only fast for at least a few days, this will also reset your taste buds which will mean veges will taste better and sweet junk food will seem absurdly sugary.

A water only fast is hard for soem people and it may be very hard to resume eating properly. Longo's FMD (fast mimicking diet) is easier and suited to most people, me included.

Anyway, an healthy plant-based, normocaloric diet with a 24 hours water fast once a week would constitute a very good regimen.

I am here because I saw on the website that there are Local Groups, but after a week of site/forum/facebook/web
searches I didn't manage to find one for Paris area (France).

I have tried calling the contact numbers on the "Contact" page but didn't get through (a Swede friend
is telling me the "Europe Office" number is "Temporarily unavailable").
