nmonaco
I noticed that eating a cup of Cheerios (something I had eschewed for ages as a Paleo guy) yielded me %15 of my nutrients at about 100 calories - a pretty good bang for the buck - mostly in the iron and B vitamin areas. But it occurred to me that the product may just be artificially fortified with these nutrients. Sort of like drinking Red Bull for the vitamin B. My question is - does that count as food nutrition or supplement nutrition? (I have gleaned from this site that nutrients from supplements should always take a back seat to food nutrients.) Thanks for any input Link to comment
mccoy
Micronutrients from fortified foods would obviously count as supplement nutrition, although it's not always practical or easy to single such micronutrients out. I may suggest not to become too much obsessed about it, you can just try to get some more natural iron and B vitamins from natural food. Link to comment
Gordo
Also note that a lot of these baked/toasted processed cereals are high in AGEs. Not completely sure how important that is. Many are also "fast carbs" meaning they spike the blood sugar. Link to comment
