  1. I relatively eat a lot of potatoes, bananas and beans, but according to MyFitnessPal, this accounts to less than 1500mg of the 3500. I wonder if some people here take potassium supplements? It is hard to get 2000mpg K supplements by caplets. Going in powder might be a better option; 10g of potassium bicarbonate brings you 3906mg according to this one not offered as a supplement, but for cooking; https://www.amazon.ca/Bicarbonate-Food-Grade-Crystalline-Elos-Premium/dp/B09ZTPGBX8/ref=sr_1_6?crid=3OBYKM8AXYZ76&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.mNqQFo_CrZAF7JCvauupNNLeK0VZYpW8RBga5x34aNyzbYAHqxBaj5ChePjxsHOWUL-026X4F_NltXuDOqBrjO7qvYQ_OH9n9V0wJAk2oVBmdH92GLrwSxBhjE9TR9B4FS9bNDg14FdVIfhzMWP3jvIy4vbAG8N28GDbvC5KBlwM5lLHHGohVAxQNQGAlDJoQbADgeIXwYjznq7Lo0jDXljKzNyrxlRuL0SKyR-sunBjKKawNvGR-9DRegJIvockeNx8g4GqnAOyyKKbg7pJvCMm3nNsMLsEakGJnw6qW_8.AKHwvpA333rJooKBBS2qNHjFKv34DS5LxvW8Rx-0gzc&dib_tag=se&keywords=potassium+powder&qid=1711324337&sprefix=potassium+powder%2Caps%2C107&sr=8-6 But it would be my 7th regular powder to take lol! Or I could use it in my cooking if K doesn't get destroyed by the heat...
  2. I think that you just made an unsubstantiated opinion yourself... lol. Joking aside, Gregor was the turnpoint in 2015 that made me eat way more plant-based food.... didn't care before. He probably cherry-picks what he reports, yet he brings a lot of good info.
  3. Today, after 1945kcal intake, 2124 kcal exercise and 1699 kcal additional deficit, MFP predicts that I should weight 24lbs less in 5 weeks, that's insane! I know that it isn't sustainable, I'll stick until July 21st, thanks for your concerns. I really don't feel any hunger, but my body might assume differently. Among different sites reporting this; https://polysleep.ca/blogs/wellness/intermittent-fasting-and-sleep A total of 2450 kcal / day deficit might qualify... cortisol time! In retrospect, I might also have understated one variable that I barely mentioned ...cutting the booze. As an un-apologetic epicurean, I must admit that I have been a heavy drinker for 10 years. I was able to log in the kcal and get to the weight I wanted up to 2021, but since then, I must have been drifting... I was in Europe for a good part of May and I returned with a pain in my liver... *not good*. It took 2 weeks to go away. It is possible that my liver in healing contributes to my higher energy. Going back to Europe again on July 21st, 'gotta be more careful...
  4. Good to know. Still struggling with this, like this AM, on again at 4h... It is a temporary thing and a challenge to me, until July 21st after that I just plan to be around 1500-1750 net. It all works fine except the sleep. In the last week, I lost 3.1 lbs which may include some lean mass. My counter measure is to do a lot more exercise, although I should be doing more resistance training. To me, my level of energy is astonishing these days despite the lack of sleep. For example, yesterday I was on my bike outdoors for many hours. I did a full hour at 163bpm average and max 203 (and speed to match), no discomfort or excessive sweat and my body just asked for more. In the chart, 165 is the 'recommended' max heart rate for a 55yo. Usually, it is less than 140 average. I started using more supplements last week, but what I observed (lack of sleep and more energy) started 3 weeks ago, when I went into intense mode.
  5. I was in a 'pseudo-maintenance mode' and gained back some weight since 2021 unfortunately. 153-155lbs was my normal range, but still higher than what I intended to do (5'10" male, medium build, 50s). I went in a more controlled / aggressive mode since June 14th, excluding booze (rather heavy drinker here). My average food intake according to MyFitnessPal (strictly entered and weighted when possible) is 1550 kcal. Adding 1.5-2h of bike daily and a 30-45m should create a deficit of 3lbs a week, which I plan to do until 21st. It is relatively easy to do and I don't feel that it is extreme. Past that point, in a less aggressive mode, I just want to continue (no alcohol at home, this time) and my end goal is to get <12% bodyfat. Energy is surprisingly good, mood is great;I feel driven & motivated. My problem is sleep. With all this new energy expenditure, I wake up ....at 4h AM, after 5.5-6h of sleep. It used to be 6.5-7. I have no problem getting to sleep in the evening, but can't really at 4h. Sometimes, I can sleep in the daytime day, but not most of the days. A consequence of this is that I have some brain fog. What do I do at 4-5h AM? Go for a walk! My job has always been stressful, but not worse these days and my mood is generally better. My carbs/sugar are in check. I tried Melatonin and even sleep pills (the regular ones @ 25 mg diphenhydramine hydrochloride, the 50mg ones hit me like a brick) but I'd rather avoid them on a daily basis. I tried adding ashwagandha supplements (2x 300mg), a natural stuff, it helped in some ways but not for sleep, unfortunately. Windows are tightly closed (I suspected the birds) and it is all dark in the bedroom. Any suggestions, aside from eating more or exercising less?
  6. I am surprised that his total cholesterol is not under 150 as he claims to be a vegan. https://blueprint.bryanjohnson.co/#by-the-numbers I wonder how many folks are 5-6% body fat here...lol!
  7. It is clearly stated in the video by the scientist, not only in the accompanying link. I am still a fan of popcorn, no salt or butter. It doesn't deserve a bad rep.
  8. To answer the question, I believe that I should. Two folds; accumulate provisions and sell our house, too close from a large city. Imagine this scenario; a nuclear detonation in Europe and that mad Putin continuing to make nuclear threats to all major countries that got involved indirectly, including America, on a weekly basis. Possible outcome? .... people fleeing from large cities. Worst outcome? .... hundreds of nuclear detonations around the world including my area (I am 12 miles from a large city) ... meaning 100Ks of dead bodies nearby not talking about the radiations. Hundreds of satellites would be attacked and destroyed. Supply chains would be reduced to an unacceptable level. Without being necessarily a republican, I believe that Biden/Harris are way more dangerous than the Trump/Pence. I don't think that Putin would have done this under Trump and Biden's medical condition is fragile, showing way too many 'senior moments'. 2022 looks horribly grim.
  9. Unsure that there is anything new "revealed', but this is a good summary. It seems to be a protein-restricted diet. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-10762635/Revealed-scientifically-backed-longevity-diet-Plan-includes-CHOCOLATE-cuts-red-meat.html
  10. Well exercising increases metabolism .... I would venture to say that after a certain level, it is most detrimental to longevity (according to Dr Valter Longo)... rarely athletes with a lot of muscles achieve very old age,
  11. Impressive, I hope that my next smartwatch will have something like that and accurate. https://news.samsung.com/global/samsung-expands-vital-blood-pressure-and-electrocardiogram-tracking-to-galaxy-watch3-and-galaxy-watch-active2-in-31-more-countries
  12. Interesting read. https://financialpost.com/news/did-a-canadian-medical-expedition-lead-to-the-discovery-of-an-anti-aging-pill However, according to it;
  13. "A long daily fast." I thought that fasting was days over a month. Not get lost in the semantic, but time-restricted eating appears to me a better description. There are actually a lot more information about it. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/32480126/
  14. Some people... Thanks Mike for that summary.... the drop of mortality related to chocolate intake is surprisingly high.
  15. Is there anything in a blood test that could suggest an high consumption of sodium? I have one this Tuesday...myfitnesspal says that today, my intake of sodium will be 3827mg (I just realized that 3500-4000mg is typical for me). My blood pressure is ok. EDIT: I got my blood test and it lists a normal sodium range (135-147mmol/L), I am at 143 so no worry - unless this criteria is not relevant to vessels hardening by sodium.
  16. Maybe a bit off-topic but related IMO. I am looking for data supporting that the upper limit of 200mg/dL TC recommendation might be still too high. The argument was about 1/3 of people who had a infarction also had their TC between 150-200. But the disease was almost inexistent for those with a TC less than 150. I remember having seen that more than 5 years ago, but for a reason I can't put my finger on it. Or maybe it wasn't founded.
  17. Right on. I would have a different story if it was about a virus like ebola but in this case, all those fallacies like the masks, social distancing & stay-at-home orders achieved nothing, incredibly counterproductive and created more chaos than needed, justifying an incessant string of abuses. I can tell you that the hospitals are overwhelmed year after year, covid or not, especially in vacation times. Find something else. According to the newly-radicalized, Sweden's excellent outcome should have never happened. Sweden is different from its immediate neighbors as it has way many more large & dense cities comparable to the ones found on the old continent, but their herd immunity strategy worked. Their average death rate has been almost 0 for almost two months... no resurgence of death rate unlike ultra-zealots countries like Japan and most of the western world! People who defend the masks refer often to Japan as the golden standard....wrong. Most of those countries with low death rate have one thing in common.... their citizens are rather in excellent physical shape. Covid attacked the populations that are the most out of shape. Even at that, Japan is not even in the top tier of countries with the least death per M, it is now ranked 81 of 223. Here, the YTD 2021 overall deaths (no matter the cause) is not only lower than their equivalent YTD 2020, but also lower than 2018 and 2019.... this comes from the very official The Institut de la statistique du Québec. Still they act like if it was totally the contrary. Then you have to figure out why people are still paid by our dear federal government TO NOT WORK until October, in a context that we are in a severe shortage of workers.... insanity.
  18. It is about time that we do like in Sweden. Let herd immunity win and not get insane about it. https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/sweden-remove-most-remaining-pandemic-restrictions-this-month-2021-09-07/ I am sympathetic to vaccines (and an admirer of Salk in the 50s) but most people give them benefits that they don't have. They are mostly designed to protect the hosts, do very little for spreading. Now we see Israel as a top spot for new infections - they were the leaders in vaccination. https://nationalpost.com/news/world/israels-covid-19-surge-shows-the-world-whats-coming-next Even Palestine with 6x less vaccination has a better death rate, in an harsher environment. Aside of vaccines (I got my shots), for this virus I find most of the other measures (masks, social distancing BS, confinements ) hysterical, abusive and irrational. They made a very bad situation much worse.
  19. I think that, thanks to the low carb madness, they were vilified but this is less and less true. I eat my yellow potatoes cooked with my air fryer, often cut the French Fries style. I love them.
  20. 5'10" 54yo 1500 'net' as recorded daily on myfitnesspal
  21. OP, I learned about CR in 2009 when recommendation #1 against cancer was "Be as lean as you can without becoming underweight". Would not have been some stupid substance abuse, I would have done much better since then. With myfitnesspal, I now find it easy to reach my daily goal (1550 net calories) and I weight a lot of food, including peanut butter. I want to get and stay @ 9-10% body fat (currently at 15%, so not too far away). I have been near 240lbs 5'10" in the 2000s, so it is already a drastic improvement to me. It also got easier when I familiarized myself with plant-based diet (ref/Dr. Greger). I still eat animal proteins twice a week and I keep proteins very low.
  22. Impressive. I don''t understand how the KO mice were conditioned. In the video it says; "growth releasing hormone was knocked out" by the removal of a protein responsible for growth hormone. How was it done? What protein? I see a reference to "Nfe2l2 protein, mouse". Any equivalent for humans?
