Dear Members,

O.K. I added up out of 3 different vitamin bottles I have that come to. 47,140 IU of vitamin A being taken in one day. My Mom is taking simular doses the A worries me.

I think that might be too much. they are in 3 different things we take a day and we both are getting about

47,140 IU's a day. What is a safe amount? or some opinions on this some of the dose is in a multi. some in a macular degeneration mix. and then an extra dose in a baush and lomb eye supplement. all adding up to 47,140 IU of A a day. I think I'll only be able to take away like 3,500 or 2,500 off the amount that's the only extra in the multi still even 40,000 IU of A seems like alot. a day. I'm looking for some suggestions on this if you also think that's alot. it was suggested by an optomoligist just seems like alot to me. it's his new program. I could write the company's off the bottles and ask to have possible lower dosages so they can all go together better like Bausch and lomb maybe making both types so they intermix.he supplies one of the bottles through his office and told us to buy the other 2 bottles from the store. but these are the 3 he wants us to take adding up to.

47,140 IU of A a day. sorry about spelling errors I see them but i'm leaving them in I'm in a hurry.

Thankyou, Cactus.....

Well, Cactus, I've seen discussions on this list that recommend only getting up to around RDA levels per day for vitamins and minerals. Many studies have shown that excess vitamins often lead to life shortening outcomes. Vitamin A is a bit special since the only dangerous amounts come from vitamin pills. The excess vitamin A from diet can be removed from the body, but over supplementation can cause harm because the vitamin is in a different chemical form. So do yourself a favor and stop supplementing with vitamin A if you don't need to.

There are many issues with different vitamins and minerals from over supplementation. The position I think works best is to only supplement the individual vitamins and minerals that your diet is short in, and then only supplement up to a little over RDA.
