KHashmi316
The recent interest in fasting, coupled with the fact that many -- perhaps most -- member profiles here on this Forum were never exposed to old mailing list, leads me to think some archival emails need resurfacing. I have all Main List postings roughly mid-2003 to "present" (in a Thunderbird database; easily searchable, filterable, and categorizable on myriad parameters including 'Subject", "Body", "Sender", etc. etc ). From roughly early 2000 to mid-2003, I was using AOL Mail, which I can data-mine (to a much more limited extent). Times a wastin' ... so I'll get right to my first topic in the next post. Any objections .. Tim or another Mod can censor or delete as necessary. Quote Link to comment

Bill: the List software does not pass through attachments, and we don't have the server space for them anyway. The usual etiquette is (if you are willing to do it) to offer to send the pdf to anyone who asks for a copy -- OFF LIST, via direct request to your personal email. It's also helpful to post key extracts from the paper (not the full text, please: copyrighth issues, etc). This looks interesting. my own review of the Time-Restricted Feeding data has left me somewhat puzzled by seeming inconsistencies; it's a surprising paradigm. -Michael -- Michael Rae Science Writer, SENS Research Foundationhttp://www.sens.org Reimagine Aging_______________________________________________ The CR Society List Rules require that list users respect the U.S. copyright law and regulations.CR@lists.calorierestriction.org To change CR mailing list settings or unsubscribe:http://lists.calorierestriction.org/mailman/listinfo/cr_lists.calorierestriction.org =============== All: Chuck wrote: On Fri, May 2, 2014 at 10:44 PM, Al Pater <alpater@shaw.ca> wrote: http://www.stltoday.com/lifestyles/health-med-fit/ health/will-fasting-help-you-lose-weight-live-longer-wash- u/article_b9859e45-f825-5f4f-ab79-a05223120e91.html Participants take multivitamins to avoid nutrition deficiency, and they’re encouraged not to exercise on fasting days. I wonder if they take the multivitamins on fasting days only. Would you happen to know? The piece says that "This is not an absolute fast, because it does not require you to give up food for the entire day. Instead, Dr. Luigi Fontana, ... says to aim for 500 calories on a fasting day. " I had assumed that if you eat well on the non-fasting days it wouldn't matter on the fasting days. The body is really very good at handling the non-intake of nutrients for a day or even a week; still, if it was me, and I was for some reason going to do an absolute fast for 24 h, I'd be inclined to take an RDAish supplement of water-soluble, minimally-stored vitamins (C, most Bs) on fast days just in case. (if, that is, I could even FIND such a thing as an RDAish B complex...). -Michael -- Michael Rae Science Writer, SENS Research Foundationhttp://www.sens.org Reimagine Aging_______________________________________________ The CR Society List Rules require that list users respect the U.S. copyright law and regulations.CR@lists.calorierestriction.org To change CR mailing list settings or unsubscribe:http://lists.calorierestriction.org/mailman/listinfo/cr_lists.calorierestriction.org ========================= Αλλ¨ Alex C wrote: So I recently got my fasting insulin results back. And they were below the threshold of detection (<2) I often notice that I feel really bad after eating too many carbs. Could it mean that when I eat carbs, my insulin won't rise as fast as it would in normal people, and that CRONites in general should eat carbs only in small portions (e.g. < 100 calorie portions)? I wouldn't conclude anything about your POSTPRANDIAL glucoregulation from your FASTING data. If you want to know about the former, go get an OGTT. That said, the whole "CR-induced impaired glucose tolerance" thing happens in people with low fasting insulin, associated with low testosterone, thyroid hormones, and most robustly IGF-1. Have you had the latter triad tested? -Michael -- Michael Rae Science Writer, SENS Research Foundationhttp://www.sens.org Reimagine Aging +++++++++++++++++ ...more to be posted ...
