I just did a deep dive in this and there are a couple studies on the polyphenols in red wine specifically, which include catechin and quercetin in addition to resveratrol: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3407993/ https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/23408240/ And here's my deep dive: https://www.longevityadvice.com/alcohol-life-expectancy/ Turns out there's actual in vivo animal studies showing life extension from small amounts of alcohol. I always thought that advice was only based on epidemiological studies which I tend to distrust.

Methionine Restriction is Not Viable in Humans
aducknamedjoe replied to Michael R's topic in CR Science & Theory
I did a little research on my own on this question (https://www.longevityadvice.com/protein-aging/), and it turns out glycine supplementations seems to mimic methionine restriction and extends life in rats and mice, and also has some positive biomarker improvements in humans.- 15 replies

Methionine Restriction is Not Viable in Humans
aducknamedjoe replied to Michael R's topic in CR Science & Theory
Super interesting, thank you! I know there's been some discussion (from, e.g. Chris Masterjohn) on using glycine to balance out methionine. Did that come up in any of your research?- 15 replies

What do you consider the *foundational* CR studies?
aducknamedjoe replied to aducknamedjoe's topic in CR Science & Theory
FYI, here's the published overview: https://www.longevityadvice.com/caloric-restriction/ I added in Fontana's studies plus the Biosphere 2 experiment, and @Matt I also linked your guide towards the end in the "how to start" section, thank you! -

Awesome, super helpful, thank you both! -
I'm putting together an overview of CR and was wondering what folks here consider the most important/convincing research that's foundational to the idea and practice of caloric restriction? I'm assuming CALERIE, the Minnesota Starvation Experiment, and the NIA and WNPRC rhesus monkey studies feature highly, but what else? Here's a list of some I've already collected: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3674854/#R2 https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2125200/ http://www.wealthandhealth.ltd.uk/over100/C.%20M.%20McCAY%201935.pdf https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/15885745/ https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/11991408/ dogs https://www.livescience.com/3725-methuselah-mouse-rejuvenation-prize-awarded.html https://www.nature.com/articles/nature11432 negative monkey finding but some positive health results https://www.nih.gov/news-events/news-releases/nih-study-finds-calorie-restriction-does-not-affect-survival https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2812811/ positive monkey finding https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5247583/ positive monkey finding https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/12634286/ older positive monkey finding https://www.thelancet.com/journals/landia/article/PIIS2213-8587(19)30151-2/fulltext Humans CALERIE https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minnesota_Starvation_Experiment https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/26399868/

Blood Panel: What to Test Annually?
aducknamedjoe replied to Ron Put's topic in General Health and Longevity
Your list is more comprehensive than mine (https://www.longevityadvice.com/aging-biomarkers/). Although, any reason you don't have Coronary artery calcium (CAC) score in there? Or liver markers like ALT and AST? Also may be worth considering a genome sequence to check for specific mutations like APOE if you haven't already.- 50 replies

Levine Phenotypic Age Spreadsheet
aducknamedjoe replied to Ron Put's topic in General Health and Longevity
Sorry for a bit of threadomancy here, but I found this as I was researching different aging biomarkers to track (https://www.longevityadvice.com/aging-biomarkers/) and I'm curious if people have kept up their tracking of this biological age calculation? It seems ideal since most markers can be got from simple blood tests, and while not *as* correlated as Horvath's clock, appears more accessible to the average joe. -
I do wonder how "compressed morbidity" and increased healthspan will impact people's willingness to die. If Tom and Mike are right I would assume as we increase healthspan/compress morbidity and fewer people are living out their twilight years in chronic pain that the demand for anti-aging research will actually increase, since you have less of that "I'm in so much pain just end it already" mindset. In a different vein, and more CR-focused, as anyone read either James Clement's "The Switch" or Valter Longo's "The Longevity Diet"? I'm thinking of picking up the former based on a podcast interview with the author and was wondering if anyone has read both and can compare them? https://www.longevityadvice.com/longevity-books/

Also, figured I'd avoid creating a new thread, but has anyone attended any of these longevity events or conferences? https://www.longevityadvice.com/best-longevity-conferences/ I was super excited to travel to some of them this year but then the pandemic hit and most of them are online now. Any ones that you would recommend?

Thank you! It's very exciting and I'm really enjoying learning as much as I am about it; it's such an interesting space that I want to learn everything at once but I'm forcing myself to take a more methodological approach. And yeah we'd love to work with Lifespan.io on something, I love their rejuvenation roadmap (https://www.lifespan.io/road-maps/the-rejuvenation-roadmap/) and we link to it a couple times in the piece.

We put this together as a primer for introducing people to human life extension. Do you think this works for giving someone new to the concept a good overview of the theories and science? https://www.longevityadvice.com/human-life-extension/ I learned quite a bit about CR and IF to put together the guide: did you know the longevity-promoting effects of moderate starvation (caloric restriction/fasting) have been known as far back as 1914, when a study showed that caloric restriction in mice inhibited tumor growth? (here's the study: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2125200/)
