How to properly scrape the forum so we don't lose it againhttps://www.crsociety.org/topic/18727-how-to-properly-scrape-the-forum-so-we-dont-lose-it-again/ Invisionforum gives admins the ability to download the entire forum free of change.

But there are other scraping services like Winhttrack which I used to scrape some entire forums (still need to get the options right for multi-page threads and too much is going on for me to properly run it for a while)

and some new ones like https://x.com/ericciarla/status/1847002234372215172

Spinach - the true superfood?https://www.crsociety.org/topic/12367-spinach-the-true-superfood/I began to notice the huge impact my daily 9-12 ounces of spinach was having on my cronometer nutrient totals so I did a little experiment.

According to cronometer if I eat 21 cups of chopped spinach I will fulfill 85% of my nutrients at 869.4 calories. I get similar numbers with 30 cups of chard at 78% nutrients at 1050 cal.

Now I do not suggest this as a daily regimen, but I am surprised at the nutrient count. Does spinach really have fat in it? According to crono my 21 cups has 217% of omega 3 - who knew? (you guys probably did but not me!).

Is spinach the key to successful CRON living? When in doubt or short on nutrient, just eat more spinach? (all Popeye references aside for now)

Sorry for the downtime. We hit a mandatory update point for the forum software and the folks with admin privileges (Tim and James) were unavailable for a few days.

Thanks you James for taking care of it. I see a few things are different / improved. One thing I noticed is that a few of us seem to have blue checkmarks next to our profile pictures, for what it's worth. Feels like Twitter! 🙂 It probably means we have some level of admin privileges.

CR healed autoimmune illness?https://www.crsociety.org/topic/17923-cr-healed-autoimmune-illness/ Lately I have been reading about calorie restriction releasing something to help immunity. The articles are sketchy but make me think about something that happened about 18 years ago.

I had RA and Duputren’s Contracture develop around the same time. The RA lasted a year and was gone. Mr doctor said it was in remission. The Duputren’s started making my fingers curl and then stopped. I still have dents on my hand where the cords had been contracting. At that time I was well into doing CR correctly. It’s just recently that I’m thinking the CR might have done the cure.

Might this have been possible?

Calorie Restriction diet - bookshttps://www.crsociety.org/topic/562-calorie-restriction-diet-books/I have just discovered the Calorie Restriction concept and have started on the road to wellness after 54 years of ignorance. Having ordered a copy of 'The Longevity Diet', I'm informed that Amazon's suppliers do not have it in stock and are waiting for more copies.

Is there any alternative to this book, or indeed would any members be able to recommend what books to read and in what order, for a complete newbie?

I've managed to get my calorie intake down to about 1900 a day and am working on ways to get it still lower, but it's early days and I don't want to rush it.

Many thanks,

Jonathan.

CR and Mantle Cell Lymphoma?https://www.crsociety.org/topic/17825-cr-and-mantle-cell-lymphoma/ In Sept 2021, I was diagnosed with mantle cell lymphoma (MCL - confirmed by the FISH test method). The prognosis is generally and statistically grim but possibly twice as good as commonly reported:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mantle_cell_lymphoma#Prognosis

https://www.medicinenet.com/mantle_cell_lymphoma_mcl/article.htm#what_is_the_prognosis_and_survival_rate_of_mantle_cell_lymphoma
[At 50 and otherwise good health, I'm in the 'under 65' category - generaly ok for most procedures.]

For the record, the doctors are optimistic or at least not pessimistic. It's the web that's scary.

Rushing tests as fast as possible (blood, x-ray, biopsy, PET scan, bone marrow biopsy, CAT scan), I was able to start chemotherapy in October (I had little interest in treatment delays or 'watchful waiting' - thankfully the oncology team moved quickly). The PET scan put me in Stage 3 or 4 (due to tumorous lymph nodes in all quadrants of the body and neck). It was detected in my bone marrow which might imply Stage 4 (?). However, that is not - as told to me - unsurprising. Also, the literature does report staging to not always be critical.

Staging matters less because the crux of the biscuit is "relapsed or refractory (R/R) disease" when the MCL comes back:

https://lymphomahub.com/medical-information/treatment-landscape-for-mantle-cell-lymphoma-an-update

So far, I do NOT have the TP53 mutation and my Ki67 is 10-20% (both of those are good news). Presently, I'm in the second 28-day cycle (of 6 cycles) in 'Arm B' of this study:

https://www.clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT04115631?term=ea4181&draw=2&rank=1

***

This has more than rekindled my interest in CR. I've been tracking calories and weight for about 90 days with mostly good success. The first round of chemo did knock out some short-term healthy eating habits which I have started to reclaim (and improve my calorie tracking as that got too lax).

While I haven't yet found much to suggest that CR is curative, it has the potential to

- improve odds of successful treatment (if 20% better odds ... I'll take that)
- avoid secondary cancers
- help appetite and avoid/prevent nausea

My 2nd cycle, I've used zero anti-nausea meds, haven't been sick and appetite is nearly normal - too good actually. Generally, exercise and restricted eating makes me feel better.

Before my diagnosis, I was ~190 lbs (BMI 28.1 at 5'9"). Briefly, I dipped to 169 lbs (BMI 25) when 6 lbs and my swollen lymph nodes disappeared over two days (there is also a yo-yo weight effect from intravenous steroids given prior to chemo as that causes temporary fluid retention). Right now, I'm at 177 lbs and prefer to be under BMI 25 and then move slowly towards BMI ~22.5.

Due to some back pain and too much inactivity (no soccer, exercise), I began strength training about 5 weeks ago. Nothing exhaustive and mostly anaerobic, but it does add a variable to tracking weight and calories.

***

How did it all come about? My barber noticed a cyst on my neck - must have been a swollen lymph node. Seeking the home remedy route, I put some castor oil on it. After two nights of that, I came down with Bell's Palsy which brought me to the ER with stroke concerns. After about 10 minutes with an ER doc, they let me leave with prescriptions and instructions to followup with a primary.

I was free of the Bell's Palsy within 4-5 days which is fast. Nonetheless, I got a new primary and went to a regular doctor for the first time in 6 years. This doctor noticed the swollen lymph nodes all over my body. These were painless though I should have noticed the ones proximate to my armpits (axilla?). I have been free of most 'B symptoms' (no fever, night sweats, unexplained weight loss). 'Fatigue' is too ambiguous for me to know conclusively.

Selections from the CR (mailing list) archiveshttps://www.crsociety.org/topic/17804-selections-from-the-cr-mailing-list-archives/ The recent interest in fasting, coupled with the fact that many -- perhaps most -- member profiles here on this Forum were never exposed to old mailing list, leads me to think some archival emails need resurfacing. I have all Main List postings roughly mid-2003 to "present" (in a Thunderbird database; easily searchable, filterable, and categorizable on myriad parameters including 'Subject", "Body", "Sender", etc. etc ). From roughly early 2000 to mid-2003, I was using AOL Mail, which I can data-mine (to a much more limited extent).

Times a wastin' ... so I'll get right to my first topic in the next post. Any objections .. Tim or another Mod can censor or delete as necessary.

My Introduction: Long-term CRONie, 16+ years on the diethttps://www.crsociety.org/topic/17007-my-introduction-long-term-cronie-16-years-on-the-diet/ I haven't yet introduced myself here so I thought I would do so for the newbies.

My name is Matt, 34 years old, and a blogger from the UK. I started a strict CR diet when I was 20 in 2005, but as I'll explain, I started making changes which resulted in weight loss two years prior to that.

In 2003 I came down with a terrible chest infection which required two antibiotics to clear it. It was probably the worst chest infection that I've ever had. During the recovery period which was about two weeks, I started to think that I really should be making changes to my diet to get healthy. During my teens, I mainly lived off cereals and quite a bit of junk food, too. The only reason I never become really overweight was likely because I got plenty of exercise playing sports.

From 2003 - 2005, I slowly began to make changes by not having sugar on my cereal, changing to wholemeal bread, cutting sugar from my tea, and stopped the fizzy drinks and drank more water. I also started to eat more fruit. I also went to the gym a few times per week, too.

All of these changes resulted in slow weight loss until I stabilized at a low-normal BMI. Then in 2005, I started a strict CR diet on just 1550 K/cal per day, and maintained a very low-calorie diet for at least 6-7  years before increasing my calorie intake a little. Not because I was having issues with the diet, I just wanted to look better. The hardest part about it was explaining to people why I was so skinny and having people worry about me since my BMI was as low as 16. Anyway, for many years after, I held a BMI of about 17.5, and with my small frame, I didn't get so many negative comments any more.

It's a bit fuzzy how I came across CR, but the Longecity forum and April Smith's blog probably had something to do with it. I might've come across her blog as I was a supporter of the Methuselah Foundation and Aubrey's SENS strategy to defeat aging at the time. I also had spent years reading essays and articles from Kurzweil's website about the future... and so to enjoy this amazing future, it seemed like a good idea to try and extend my lifespan and CR seemed like the best way to do that.

In 2019, I'm still optimistic that calorie restriction will be really effective for humans and some of us will easily surpass 100 years. While I don't believe the predictions Walford made about 150, I think someone that started in early adulthood could reach 130.

If you look at me today, it would appear that I've 'eased up' on CR. And while that was true before, right now my average calorie intake is around 1500-1600 Calories per day, back to what I was eating in 2005 when I only managed to maintain a BMI of 16.3. Over the years, my metabolism seems to has changed and it's harder to lose weight, my body seems to be more resistant to losing fat.

I wonder if anyone else who has been on CR for over 10 years has experienced the same? I've carefully monitored and tracked my food to make sure that I am not overeating... In fact, many days I would undereat.

One change (but I'm not sure if it accounts for the difference) is that I work from home now, so I might be getting less exercise than before, but it's not like I was heavily exercising back then either. Even when I significantly undereat, it seems my body just holds onto the weight.

This diet has helped me in many ways though... I rarely get sick (again), I feel great, my allergies are completely gone so I can now enjoy the summer, and many people I meet still think I'm much younger than my age. So I'm very happy with the results so far.

I miss the old days when there were several CR blogs. I don't know what happened exactly, maybe people just went off the diet or they weren't getting much engagement on the blogs so they gave up. I know I've felt that a lot over the years with my blog. I like writing about CR, but it gets virtually no engagement and no organic traffic (I won't go into why on here).

I'm still trying to be successful with my blog. It's been really hard. But I hope to have more time soon to participate here a bit more than I have so far.

New ambitious young memberhttps://www.crsociety.org/topic/17644-new-ambitious-young-member/ Hi everyone, my name is Xazadomiskaqyj3000 and I am from California. I am chronologically 28 years old and have been interested in life extension/longevity/health for a while now. The ultimate goal is to live long enough to live forever which I believe is feasible for many of the people who are around today. I am currently in the process of creating a personalized regiment to be in the best possible health and to reverse my own aging. I am of the what ever it takes mentality. I am a believer in caloric restriction/time restricted eating/intermittent fasting/longer fasts, supplements, biohacking, medications like metformin and rapamycin, senolytics, and whole foods raw mostly vegan (with some exceptions such as salmon), temperature extremes exposure, Alkaline water, HIT, etc.
